Altaire relaxed in the courtyard, sitting back on a bench, eyes closed. Her thoughts had stopped only a few moments ago, now she just wanted to forget everything . . . everything and not think for a while . . . to relax every fiber of her being.
A rush of wind and wings beside her made her eyes open slowly, her gaze move to Soleil who had landed beside her, "Hello, my friend . . . take me away with you . . . let our minds be one," she murmured, lightly touching the bird's beack and sliding her finger down to the tip, their eyes locked.
Her own eyes closed only to have her sight continue through the Gyrfalcon. She saw herself sitting on the bench, but then Soleil took off in a meaningless, lazy flight.
I wish I could fly, Soleil . . . I would fly away from everything sometimes . . . just to forget everything horrible and bring everything wonderful to the forefront of my mind . . . to organize my thoughts where I would not be interupted . . . if only I could, she thought, both in her own mind and in Soleil's. If the falcon heard she did not respond.
For a long while she just flew with her, feeling the wind under their wings as if they were only her's. She didn't know why she had this connection with Soleil . . . often she had wondered about it, but she did, and she was glad for it. So much could be accomplished on the wings of a Gyrfalcon.
All to soon, it seemed to her, she returned to her own body, her own mind, opening her eyes and staring up at the sky with longing. Without Kye . . . Solos had pushed his way back into her mind, made her hate him all the more, and brought back thoughts of her little Reoden . . . and how he had taken him from her with no warning.
She closed her eyes once more, Damn you, Solos . . . damn you! She let a single tear fall for her lost son, but wouldn't allow any more. She had a new life here, with Kye, a man she knew truly loved her. Perhaps she might bear new children . . . his children . . . . She smiled at the thought, her eyes opeing up to the sky above once more.
